Just Asking

Degrading, words that question
Highlands, now so far away
Exotic culture at her door
It was me, she thought I was
But it was really, it was really her

What should I believe in
That’s why I asked, what is it
A smile, blushing, is it pretending
“I don’t know about these things”
It was personal, I was just asking

My heart’s not out on main street
I let things come to me, so I’m alone
Waiting for something from far away
Does love travel, do I expect too much
A world so large, it fits inside my day

I like to ask questions, what are you
Give me a sign, everybody is so coy
How could I kill your pride so easily
The strength to say I love you first
Without you, who could live peacefully
