Is This All I Can Be?

I haven’t been out on the road
Not for a long time, stuck behind a desk
The money’s good, everybody wants it
But when can I give it a rest?

I might walk down to the church I saw today
It was small and needed some paint
Is God inside, telling us we’ll be alright?
I hope he’s not expecting some kind of saint

Maybe, maybe this is the best I can be
I hope you see something good Lord
Because if you can’t then I’m fooling myself
My lies are my soul cut by Satan’s sword

I think you have to know what’s good
It’s not how long it lasts, everything ends
You don’t have to light the candle everyday
It lives inside the lives of your friends

I won’t be asking you for anything
Best I can tell anyway, it’s not for me
I once lived under the roof of a dime
Now a dollar can’t buy the time I was free

Maybe, maybe this is the best I can be
I hope you see something good Lord
Because if you can’t then I’m fooling myself
My lies are not the same as your word
