inadequate-translations

Words are inadequate translations, of the

Mystery we are, wrapped tightly in shadows,

Awaiting the fullness of the sun.

They say we must not eat on holy months,

Yet the monk Sakya Muni, ate from the

Hands of a beautiful woman and attained Nirvana.

Ignorance is the knight of Love’s mercy,

Knowledge is the awakening of Her dawn.

You have placed thorns on my temptations,

Added the wafts of flowers to soothe the pain.

It is Your Love that adorns this orchard;

Your sweetness drips, like sugarcane juice.

I speak of ‘free will’, but I am at times compelled,

Into this river of sorrowful wine.

O Light, what pushes me, into this mire of darkness?

I’m doing this to no one, but only to myself.

There is a blossoming Lotus, in the profundity of

The Heart. No need for suffering, as Love is there.

I wish for that intimacy, so as to explode with loving.

Yet I am that stray dog in the neighbour’s garden,

Unknowingly calling, upon Love’s concern.

My Sweetheart, I am your fullness and Your emptiness;

Your ray of lustre, in the perennial sky.

In the serene stillness of a billion stars, we are One.

There is a kiss that I have been waiting for, all my life;

Now the moon has appeased this agony, with its supernal Light.

Wisdom from the Master

“Complete and total perfection will come about only when we feel that our perfection is no perfections as long as the rest of humanity remains imperfect.” -Sri Chinmoy

“Your heart will be shattered by sorrow if you force it to live in tomorrow's ephemeral imagination - world instead of in today's eternal reality – now.” -Sri Chinmoy.

Thank you so much Dora. Appreciated. Yes, the beginning is 'cool' all right. God bless your wisdom-Heart.

Dora Weithers from The Caribbean on November 08, 2018:

Insightful beginning, effectively illustrated in the rest of the poem in skillful phrases and images. So appropriate for Shauna.

Ioannis Arvanitis from Greece, Almyros on November 03, 2018:

We were One. We run out to the Emptiness to joy our Light, to express the Divine within and to return to One as perfect parts that there are no parts anymore, are the One! Thank you for the in-Spirit awareness, my Brother and teacher!

Much Love and Admiration!

A beautiful presentation of the meaning of perfection and love. Your dedication to Shauna Bowling of this wonderful poem is quite worthy of her. She is such a nice and gentle personality.

Linda Crampton from British Columbia, Canada on November 01, 2018:

I always like the way in which you start your poems. "Words are inadequate translations, of the Mystery we are" is lovely and very meaningful.

manatita44 (author) from london on November 01, 2018:

Thanks Elijah.

A very nice or interesting way of putting it. I am happy because you are obviously reading the whole poem and seeing its meaningfulness or beauty. Thank you so much!!

Elijah A Alexander Jr from Washington DC on November 01, 2018:

Manatita, the full explanation of it was explained in the first three lines

"Words are inadequate translations, of the

Mystery we are, wrapped tightly in shadows,

Awaiting the fullness of the sun."

The "inadequate translation of words" has been caused by the multitude of judgmental adjectives which takes away our objectivity which causes us not to see what is before our eyes, "the Mystery," because we ventured not into that which we were conditioned to abstain from and are unable to recognize the "light of the world" which is the bridegroom to fulfill our enlightenment like the "sun" does the earth.

It took a few reading until I realized the ending's "we are one" actually means "together we are the fulness of what we seek."

Thanks for the presentation.
