In a Winter Wonderland

I'm a writer, a poet, a dreamer. Born and raised in New York City. I now live in Daytona Beach, Florida. .

The summer has past,

I knew it wouldn’t last,

that much was true

and I felt so sad and blue.

The migratory birds,

have taken flight,

they filled the skies -

with sad farewells.

The falling leaves from the trees,

swirling in the cold breeze,

tell me that the autumn -

will quickly give way to winter.

As I turned to go,

I looked all about,

at the ground that was now muddy

and the gray sky above,

the trees that would soon be bare

and the fall leaves bunched at my feet.

Such a sad time,

but a colorfully brilliant one too

and once the trees are bare,

in the wintertime,

their branches -

will be lined with white snow.

Then you can take,

your love by the hand,

walking along as silvery white flakes dance by,

kissing while huddling close –

walking in a winter wonderland.

The evergreens sprinkled with snow,

like spun sugar

and soon there is such beauty to behold.

Long dark nights,

by scented candlelight,

loving shadows flickering on the walls,

while in the fireplace embers glow,

frosty ice flowers on the windows –

lovers dream through the night.
