In The Mind's Eye

In my mind's eye, I see dancing shapes. They twist and turn and create images. Faces, Dragons, Snakes, Landscapes, Life, and Death.

I feel the energy flow from my fingertip to the pen. Moving in a way I have no control over. Creating images I've never seen before, but are still somehow familiar to me.

The images my mind creates feel alien to me. Yet they flow through me with ease. To the pen and down to the canvas, creating something strange and beautiful.

Sometimes I wonder if it's me that controls the pen or the pen that controls me. Either way, I know something amazing is about to happen when I hold it.

No mistakes, no worries. Just the pen, the image, and me.

Thanks, John. I enjoy drawing that style of imagery. It's like entertainment for me. I have been drawing in general since I was five but drawing things of that nature since high school.

Nice work, Jason. You certainly ask an interesting question in your poem. It could be that some of the creative work that we produce is guided by our subconscious. And I really love your image!

I like the message in this poem, and the pen is mighty for sure. It was very enjoyable to read, Jason.

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on January 23, 2021:

That is quite an amazing pen and ink drawing, Jason. I sometimes draw random stuff like that not knowing where my pen will take me. The result always surprises. It suits the text perfectly, or vice versa.

The pen is a powerful tool, as well as the mind. We can use it for good or evil. I liked this very much.
