I'm Happy by Choice, Not with a Reason: A Poem

Happiness is a choice, not a result. Nothing will make you happy until you choose to be happy. No person will make you happy unless you decide to be happy. Your happiness will not come to you. It can only come from you.

-- Ralph Marston

As a young dude I thought of happiness a lot

thinking how to bypass reasons to feel great

then I received this spur of intuition, or what

telling me bluntly just to feel it -- not to wait.

World's consensus called it a state to be deserved

with hard work, possessions, and ambitious strife

certainly not something to be on a platter served

but that was exactly what I prescribed for my life.

Not that I got spared of hardships and of pain

but that was in curriculum of my life school

more like gym for my heart and my brain

well, I just couldn't end up as a sad fool.

So I practiced happiness till I was blissed

whenever I would want that frequency high

it's simply much better than feeling all pissed

any crappy emotion released with a good sigh.

I have been told that such happiness was phony

believe it or not they made it sound like a crime

but I never cared much for that jealous baloney

just nonchalantly shrugged it every single time.

When you think of it -- it's quite crazy

people don't criticize skill of athlete

but hate it as their mind looks lazy

witnessing a simple willpower feat.

To me happiness is not an item on a sale

neither do I beg for it with an extended hat

I'm happy whether coin lands on head or tail

in this heart I'm just purring like self-spoiled cat.
