If Only It Could Be

I'm a writer, a poet, a dreamer. Born and raised in New York City. I now live in Daytona Beach, Florida. .

Life came

and hit me,

making me tumble down the road.

If only,

life could be,

less tough,

more tame.

Like sparkling rain,

came the showers,

that sprinkled upon me

and made my eyes all misty.

Then love came,

made me high,

took me for a wild ride,

then threw me for a loop.

If only love could last forever,

dreams are our escape,

taking us far from reality,

if only we could –

live in dreams every day.

Life drifted on too quickly,

love left me by the roadside,

my heart still longs for yesterday,

if only my dreams could –

take me away.

In the real world,

nothing works out just right,

life leads us down a thorny path,

love breaks our hearts,

if only we could,

leave the real world behind –

drifting away in dreams.

In dreams,

you would still be mine,

in dreams the world would be fine,

hearts mended,

we’d go on and on,

till the end of time –

if only…

We can only hope the life to be kinder but it has it's own path and way that it forces us to travel.

Good poem. Thanks.

Beautiful poem. Life always has ups and downs, and that includes relationships sometimes. I love the way you described the sadness.

Beautiful verse! All we can do is try to follow our dreams - sometimes it's possible, sadly often it's not.

Great poem, Gypsy, what is life without love?
