I Wish (or Poetry Is Really Not My Thing)

I wish I knew how to write poems,

to make ordinary sound extraordinary,

to create music with my words.

Poetry is just not my thing, you see.

But I don’t like breaking promises,

So here is a little poem from me.

I wish I had more time to paint through life,

to create landscapes with my hands.

Guess painting could be my thing, you see.

But it seems like there is never enough time,

So no new paintings from me.

I wish I had more time to sing out loud,

to create melodies with my voice.

Guess singing could be my thing, you see.

But it seems like there is never enough time,

So no singing out loud from me.

I wish I had more time to dance away,

to create new movements with my body.

Guess dancing could be my thing, you see.

But it seems like there is never enough time,

So no new rhythms from me.

I wish I had more time to write stories,

to create different worlds with my words.

Guess storytelling could be my thing, you see.

But it seems like there is never enough time,

So no novels from me.

I wish someone had asked me this earlier,

to have the chance to do something out of the ordinary,

to have the perfect excuse to write a poem.

Even though poetry is really not my thing, you see,

I am so glad I took the time to create this one

And kind of proud it came from me.
