Poem: I Remember a Time

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

I remember a time tells the story of how one no longer sees the sparkle in his loved one's eyes. He knows the love has disappeared. He had plans to share their life together but understands he must set his love free. If he could see the sparkle in those eyes he would remain.

I Remember A Time

I remember a time
when my love
sparkled in your eyes,
now it is only
a fleeting memory.

I do not remember
the day or hour it changed,
only the heartache I felt
as I held back the tears,
realizing your heart was no longer mine.

I had dreamed
of our future together,
I wanted
to be there
standing beside you,
facing our life together.

If only your eyes
had a sparkle
I would remain,
but it is senseless
if I can not
be the one
you desire.
