I Want to Live, I Don't Want to Die

I have been writing poetry, fiction and short stories for many years and have completed a book of poems. I also enjoy comedy writing.

i-want-to-live-i-dont-want-to-die

Oh God, I want to live, I don’t want to die

I want to rise up in the mornings, and breathe in the air from the skies

I want to hold my children each day and show them how much I love them

I want to pray for my people, ending with an Amen

Jesus, I want to live, I don’t want to die

Heal me through all sickness, give me life, not a goodbye

I want to live, I don’t want to die

I want to hug my siblings, my mom, and my dad and let them know they matter to me

I want to enjoy an earth that you have given to us, air, land and sea.

I want to walk my daughter down the aisle

I want my son to have someone to talk to during tough times

I want to laugh with my love, and wipe her tears when she cries

I want to live, I don’t want to die

I want to feel the breeze in my face when i go for a drive out

I want to pat my friend on the back, encouraging and helping out

I want to keep doing what I love to do

I want to live, i don’t want to die and that’s the truth

I want to plant the Earth, growing trees, vegetables and fruits

I want salvation for my aching soul that is the truth

I remember, by his stripes I am healed

Lord thy God, heal me, and give me life please.

Brenda, we all want to live and want more time. Especially when we have loved ones depending on us.

I am glad my poem moved you. Pray please.

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on February 22, 2021:

A heartfelt prayer and plea to God, which I am sure he will answer. You didn’t ask for anything unreasonable and they are the things that most of us would be happy with. Thank you for sharing Clive.

A simple yet profound request.

I think this is a wonderful poem, Clive. Of course, you are embracing all the wonderful things on this earth, as we all do, and you want to live.

Taking authority through your prayer lets God know you want to be healthy and live. I don't see anything wrong with that. You expressed those feelings very well. God bless you.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on February 22, 2021:

Clive,

This is so good.

It is touching. It is how one truly feels when faced with an illness that is terminal.

We want more time. We are not quite ready to leave this earth, even if it is everlasting life with our Father in heaven.

I have asked for more time on more than one occasion...for me & others.

Rodric Anthony from Surprise, Arizona on February 22, 2021:

Clive, this is how I feel. In all my trials it seems that my life is in peril. I call out that I want to live! So far, I live. If you are just writing a poem, then this is what captures me. If you are telling a story, we, I need to pray for you.
