I Did It The Right Way

I must have done it the right way
You still believe in love
I don’t have to feel guilty about that
I showed you what it’s made of

I don’t have to care how you feel any more
You’re walking on solid ground
The way of life you live is good for you
The problems we had make no sound

You must have loved me
You became so cold
It was as if it was life itself
And our death was the difference
Between a dream and reality

I remember your sexual smile
You never wasted it for a moment
They read your palm and you wept
I couldn’t believe in your torment

You must have loved me
You became so cold
It was as if it was life itself
And our death was the difference
Between a dream and reality

Maven! How have you been? It has been a long time. I moved to another site for a few years but I'm back here. I've been posting almost every other day for a while now.

Of course you have asked me a technical question but alas I must admit that if there is any meter then it was accidental. I just write as best as I can, mainly trying not to be too wordy and whatever it is, is whatever it is. This one would probably require the work of a good singer, able to pause or hold the word longer than the standard one two three four beat of a 4/4 song.

Thank you John. It is the aftermath of what the two lovers thought was the last love of their lives. But one has moved on and found someone new while the other is just exhausted by it all.

Hi Mark...long time no see...you used to write a poem couple of times a week...I should talk, I put out one every 6 months...

You still have nice visuals and clarity... what is the poem's meter..?

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on November 25, 2018:

A sad poem but well written.
