Sometimes they say that’s the way it is
I no longer hold on to what I once believed
I’m not accepting what can’t be changed
I never gave up, I’m no longer deceived
Don’t ask me to be an accomplice
Don’t ask me to be your victim
Who told you to pollute my mind
With schemes instead of wisdom?
If you give me a blessing to think about
You will become the blessing in the end
Nothing that enters my mind from the air
Is as important as peace spoken by a friend
I finally paid my debt to starting over
Along the way I saw you standing there
I won’t hide from the pain of the past
For you my heart will always remain bare
BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on October 01, 2019:
Such a powerful poem about a love that turned to nothing in the end.
Those feelings remaining bare...no forgiveness.
Lorna Lamon on October 01, 2019:
This is such a powerful yet fragile poem Mark - beautiful.
