I wish I wrote in a journal,

To record all that I feel,

But then they would know that even when I’m happy, I’m sad,

Because this world is full of broken people,

And I can't heal them all,

Even after our troubles are over,

There's no vaccine for my heart,

There's no pill for humanity,

We all still fall apart,

But without sorrow, there’s no hope,

As the pendulum swings back and forth,

Between tears and jubilant joys,

Between quiet calmness and chaotic calamity,

Will the balance ever be good enough?

Will humans rise above this dust and dirt,

And the painful existence on this planet Earth?

I don’t know, but I know I’ll never give up,

Just keep going, just keep breathing,

There’s always sunshine after a storm,

Tide in and tide out,

Everything changes, forward and back,

All I can see is all that I lack,

Maybe perfect is overrated,

But still I'll keep trying,

Cause stagnancy means certain death,

So, I'll keep growing, until my last breath.

Ahhhhh, this is absolutely beautiful, Erin. It speaks directly to the current state of humanity, especially in our country. You have carefully crafted a balance between utter sadness and optimism. Yes, keep hoping, keep breathing. Lovely. Thank you for sharing, very validating.

and... ride the incoming tide.. and only ride the outgoing tide long enough to meet the incoming waves.. Really enjoyed this insightful poem!
