Holiday Cheer - a Poem
Genevieve is a Wannabe poet and self proclaimed artist who wishes to do something greater in life.
Don't you get tired? Year after year of spending so much time celebrating the same holidays. Spending endless amounts of time buying gifts that will never be used? I don't know about you, but I find it exhausting. And don't get me wrong, but holidays can be a great time to connect with family and friends. But the sheer number of occasions can be mind blowing. Not only that but we import holidays from other cultures. Christmas is now celebrated by non-Christian countries, whats up with that?! So here is a poem inspired by my frustrations. Enjoy!
Holiday cheer
The holiday cheer is here
everyone swept up in celebration
yet those left behind
feel lonelier than ever
Frozen hearts
stuck in rapture of the past
Wishful minds
Thinking tomorrow will be better
The forced holiday cheer
seems apparent to few
who wonder what’s so special
about this day in the year
Where do they all come
from myth or from mind
and bring much needed
importance to our lives
Yet they bring thankful rest
to our busy mindless lives
A reprise from the hectic
lives that we live
But don’t you ever wonder
what made this day so
special, full of meaning
to the persons all over
I don’t mean to dull
your special odd days
just don’t get hung up
on just a few days
All other days can be special
you just have to stop
and look around
Be thankful
be grateful
for seeing this day
Don’t wish for tomorrow
because tomorrow
is another day
So know that you have read it, what do you think? Feel free to share opinions down in the comment section. And don't forget to treasure everyday day as it is. You learn something new everyday. So long for now.

A different perspective is always soul enriching. Indeed we get hung up on these occasions and await event which will bring automatic happiness, effortless cheer. In doing this we definitely limit the endless, boundless joy which can be taken simply from looking around with new eyes.
But then, there is also this: if each day is full of joy, we won't value the happiness. :)
Balance is a good word for sure.
