Her Face in the Mirror

The face in the mirror has a story to tell

Of a place and a time where angels did dwell

And fairies, pink elephants, and bubbles galore

Sprang to the heavens sweeping through her door

The song of a bluebird perched high in a tree

The lyrics of sweetness drift to the sea

Pink clouds, candy cotton, play tag in the sky

And somewhere the sound of a baby’s first cry

The face in the mirror was born long ago

To find her own way, to learn and to grow

To exercise patience, avoid all strife

And fly like an eagle to overcome life

Radiance of stardust doth resonate her song

Freeing her spirit triumphant and strong

Rafters of stars and a butterscotch moon

Mystic light shining reveals a sweet tune

Her face in the mirror a reflection of time

A treasure, a story, of life so sublime

Acceptance and peace come only through giving

The highest of art is the mastery of living.

What Do You See When You Look in the Mirror?

My poem "Her Face in the Mirror" conveys my own personal views on life...especially mine. What do you see when you look in the mirror? Is yours the face of courage? What about perseverance? Maybe you see the glow of kindness or patience. Take a gentle minute to recognize all the obstacles you've overcome. Give yourself credit for taking risks. Love the face in the mirror because it's God's creation.

Allow the past to remain in the past. You are today, a combination of all the choices you have made. We tend to label choices as good or bad and then we label ourselves in the same way. This is a habit that is often learned in childhood when we are told we're a "bad boy" or a "good girl."

We can't undo the past, but we can learn from it. Each new day brings us new opportunities along with a day of new choices that lay before us.

Accept that both the dark and light sides of life have the capacity to nourish us. In the words of Mahatma Gandhi: "My imperfections and failures are as much a blessing from God as my successes and my talents, and I lay them both at his feet."

I long to move toward the light. I yearn, I work, I desire...this is my passion. Now, I have a question for you. How did you know I drive a Mercedes? It may be a mature vehicle, but it does the job.

You teach me, my friend. You teach me through your writings and I'm inspired to do better...to open my heart and allow my truth to expose itself.

Thank you so much!

This poem is beautiful and it so positively inspires one to love his/her reflection. We are indeed quite critical of ourselves and this verse encourages to love oneself.

A magical effect of the words and a lovely rhythm that encompasses your poem.

The feeling while reading it is that of peace and serenity.

Loved it

You are beginning to interest me, Audrey. I see a very definite shift that you are probably proud off. A rapid movement towards the Light. Actually, so many more folks are showing this. The old man in the chair in Washington is actually helping us. Lol.

Your poetry is awesome. Well thought out and I love it. Now I am actually looking over my shoulder as I write in my mini cooper, as you are catching up in your Mercedes. Ha ha. Ot are you already ahead? My sight is not too good.

Very solid work and awesome reflections here, my Dear. let us pray. Glory be!

Yes, self-talk is valuable and makes a direct impact on our actions. Most of us are far too critical with ourselves. Positive feedback throughout the day is like a "pat on the back" or an "atta boy".

Thanks, my friend. I sure appreciate you!

Hi Thelma

Thank you for visiting. I'm glad you liked my poem and I hope you have a wonderful day.

Thanks for reading my poem. We all learn from each other. Take care.

I suspect you are intuitive. :) Or could it be that we're alike? What an honor this would be for me. Thanks, dear friend.

It took me some time to learn to be good to myself and listen to my own needs. All-in-all, it's worked out pretty darn well. Thanks.

Hi Mary

Hello, Jason

How very nice to see you here. Thank you for visiting. I appreciate your wise words. Thank you and take care.

Shauna L Bowling from Central Florida on May 13, 2019:

Audrey, this is a beautiful reminder to not be afraid to look in the mirror. I think sometimes we avoid mirrors because we see ourselves in a way or ways other than what the reflection shows us. The reflection is merely the housing for a lifetime of memories and experiences. It should be embraced, not avoided.

Congrats on your win! I have an HP cup just like it. :-)

When I look in the mirror I see a woman who has persevered through many obstacles. I see strength, courage and character. You know I've learned it's not age that matures you but the character traits that developed in you as a result of the things you've been through.

What a wonderful poem, Audrey. I loved the rhyme and the message, that we should take the time to analyse the person in the mirror and acknowledge both the good and bad, and make changes if necessary. Congratulations on the cup. I used to have one the same but it broke a couple of years back.
