Held Within My Dreams

Lorna is a published writer with a particular interest in narrative poetry, which she finds therapeutic.

held-within-my-dreams

Resting between the beauty of dusk

Softly touching the eventuality of dawn

Where treasured moments become reality

Surrounded by moonlight’s delicate lace

Held within my dreams

Memories of love are brought to life

Conjured up within this ethereal world of longing

Where I gently touch the essence of your existence

As we walk through fields of translucent mist

Held within my dreams

Creating a space without time or dimensions

Seduced by this illusion of the mind

Where heaven’s peace defends this broken heart

Releasing my love to rest where angels dwell

Held within my dreams

A world that I create within my being

Has no reason to prolong the joy I feel

In sleeping I have kept our love alive

To feel your presence touching my soul

Held within my dreams

The light of dawn’s reality approaches

As the remnants of memories slowly fade

Amidst the quiet notes of morning birdsong

Your knowing smile touches the fading photo

Held within my dreams

What a touching psalm of loss and love. I'm deeply moved. There is something special in the half-awake, half-asleep place. I feel like I get some of my best images and painting ideas there.

Blessings,

Denise

Lorna,

This one is so sweet.

I love holding onto dreams...a place where one can imagine anything for a few moments.

Seduced by this illusion of the mind

Where heaven’s peace defends this broken heart

I love that part.

Lora Hollings on February 12, 2020:

This is really a beautiful poem, Lorna! I think that love has an elusive quality about it especially when a person that we love passes on. Your poem takes earthly love and makes it eternal and transcendent. Only in dreams, does this love become real again and we can relive these moments that we cherish with our loved ones...forever. With tremendous skill, you create this dreamlike state that we never want to wake from! Thanks for sharing.

Lorna from USA on February 12, 2020:

Hi Lorna! You are such a poet! Where did you get your inspiration to write such beautiful poems? Thanks for sharing this lovely poem. I am looking forward to read more of your writing.

Rosina S Khan on February 12, 2020:

Yes, I understand, Lorna, through your poem you wanted to give us an impression of a romantic stroll at night until dawn approaches when memories fade away and you are caught up in the day's real-life activities once again. A beautiful, touching poem indeed!

Jason Nicolosi from AZ on February 12, 2020:

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on February 12, 2020:

This is such a lovely poem where love floats along at night in dreams. This is the picture you related in the poem to me.

JC Scull from Gainesville, Florida on February 12, 2020:

Lorna,

I have to admit I don't know much about poetry. As I see it, at least for me, writing poetry would be an effort equivalent to herding cats. I really don't know how you do it. In any case, I do enjoy reading poetry, however, and I enjoy your poems. This is a good one.
