Guru

Born inquisitive,
Vivekananda’s mind wandered for answers,
every soul he met, he would enquire,
he wanted to see the gods avatar.

He remained ascetic,
till he found his mentor,
Rama Krishna Paramahamsa.

He was the only one who said,
"your search ends here."

Vivekananda was not sure,
he held himself, till he saw himself, in his mentor.

He said “the search ends,
when you find your true self,
you yourself are his avatar."

Hey Li, thanks for your kind and excellent comments. Yes, teacher open our eyes to the ignorance we are surrounded by both in and out. It about our spiritual gurus of 19th century, Vivekananda and Rama Krishna paramahamsa.

I don't know the names of the people that you mention, but I understand the message in the poem. It's very meaningful. Thank you for sharing it.

All path leads to one higher consiousness, that god recides within. I guess every religious teaching says the same. Guru means the concious one...Happy teachers day...to you too..

Hari I am so into it folks think me demented. I am not so sure that this local Redtail Hawk was not one.

Hari Prasad S (author) from Bangalore on September 05, 2018:

That's such a nice comment Eric. You may read about these gurus online, may be pickup some books from local library.

Not that I know of; it doesn't seem to work that way here. We have awards like 'teacher of the year' but that's it!

Thanks Jodah, I think i have achieved my goal to pass the message of how a true mentor opens up the world to their pupil.

They both are very highly regarded persons in our indian soceity. I think there is rama krishna math (or mission) in australia too. You can get lot of books to study.

Hari, I would like to hear more of the story of Vivekananda and Ramakrishna after reading your poem.Good job.

Hari Prasad S (author) from Bangalore on September 05, 2018:

Thanks Ann. Do you have a forum to request for the same in UK?.

We celebrate it for Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was our ex-president and an accomplished lecturer too.

A great link to teachers' day, hari, - shame we don't have one of those in Britain! Far less respect for teachers here.

I wish you a happy week.

Thanks Ann. Vivekananda and Rama Krishna parahamasa were spiritual gurus of India. Today is teachers day. So I wrote about this story that we were told in our childhood. Thanks again Ann. :-)

This is the best thing I read on Teacher's day. You've captured this story of Vivekananda and Ramakrishna very well in your contemporary piece.
