When I Write A Poem

When I write a poem

I try not to compromise my integrity

This may be hard for some

But poems should shed truth and clarity.

When I write a poem

I like to compose about love

Because the action is universal

As old as the stars above.

When I write a poem

I want to share pain sometimes

Or lighten the mood with humor or bliss

Never to mock or make fun.

When I write a poem

I like to enlighten

The reader to think about life

The reader to see new meaning.

When I write a poem

The lyrics must be just right

I like to rhyme and scheme

Sometimes jazz it up a bit.

When I write a poem

I sing my heart's song

The sunlight and melody

The childhood innocence of a woman.

When I write a poem

I never try to be cool

But concise in tone

Letting English rule.

When I write a poem

The sweet thoughts you think of

Should bring you back to me

An adoring poet you love.

When I write a poem

You will never forget me

Because I left an imprint on stone

Upon the souls of many.

When I write a poem.
