Give Me Light

“May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out.”

― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

Give Me Light

Many times I was crushed

They throw stones of curses at me

That grinds my soul to unbearable pain

They shoot poisoned words

That sent my spirit to despair

Their eyes project piercing threats

That set my soul to mischievous grief

Their spears of hatred flung straight to my heart

I saw their mocking faces laugh and spat on my face

As they grab and drag me out to the graveled path

I feel my flesh depart from my bones

As blood ooze from my battered body

They let me crawl on red hot coals

And made me walk on spiky trails

All day long,

They made me stand under the blazing furnace of the scorching sun

And let me sleep on freezing bed of snow

I cannot open my eyes, It was dry from tears

My lips were cracked and my throat's so dry, It was deprived of voice

The strength left from my shattered bones began to fade

And the courage left from my broken heart starts to wane

My spirit slowly withers

I stretched out my pleading hands

I begged for mercy

Its so cold and gloomy

Now life and hope abandons me

I found no meaning, I'm falling

So I plead, Give me light

Before everything turns to dust

“Whatever you are physically...male or female, strong or weak, ill or healthy--all those things matter less than what your heart contains. If you have the soul of a warrior, you are a warrior. All those other things, they are the glass that contains the lamp, but you are the light inside.”
