Preface

The journey of life is not easy. It is full of hardships and challenges. Still we embrace it and move on with our sustained efforts. Sometimes, we get good results, sometimes not. Persistent efforts are the only way to progress in one's life. During this active phase of life sometimes we get angry due to situation or circumstances. I have raised same question in this poem. I do not have any answer to it but I believe that a person has to seek answer to this query by peeping inside himself.

Angry?

Getting angry sometimes

I was, brought up in a humble town,
In the serene hill environment abound.
I was from an ordinary family,
With plenty of water and air around.

I had the schooling, suffice for my purpose,
Enabled me to go for higher courses.
I had the honours in my college education,
Driving me to search some job sources.

It was quite a struggle to sail ahead,
Identifying opportunities in those times.
Only thing I could not understand,
Why I got angry sometimes.

I got a job exactly of my liking,
To teach my pupil in a school surrounding.
It was a fun to teach and to preach,
To young minds receptive to facts astounding.

My salary was meagre just to pull on,
Difficult getting other job in those times.
Only thing I could not understand,
Why I got angry sometimes.

Suddenly, I got an opportunity to grow,
Moving to a better job in a place away.
Salary was more and I liked the job,
Being my core subject it was a child's play.

But the place was remote and distant,
I was not in touch with my friends.
Loneliness grabbed me with time progressing,
Was not able to cope up with these new trends.

I again started my quest to change job,
Everywhere they asking a long experience of times,
Only thing I could not understand,
Why I got angry sometimes.

It went on like that for some more time,
Till I got an opportunity bright.
The new job was better in many respects,
Even financially it was having better prospects.

I was more or less stabilised in my life,
With ambitions full filled and no worrying times.
Only thing I could not understand,
Why I got angry sometimes.

Anger is something I wish I can get rid of. It makes things blur and makes us unable to decide properly in critical situations. It affected me so many times. Thank you for sharing

Flourish, thanks for your nice comment. Well expressed.

Liz Westwood from UK on August 12, 2020:

Anger affects us all at times I think. Most times it's probably a selfish reaction to circumstances. Occasionally it might be termed righteous anger, where we grow angry on behalf of others, who we see as being hard done by or wronged in some way.

FlourishAnyway from USA on August 12, 2020:

We all get angry. Some people have that as a defining personality trait and are prone to explosive fits. I have known a few of them. When anger arises usually it’s because we aren’t getting what we want. Figuring that out (rather than acting in haste) is the big challenge. I wish you peace.

Asereht, so nice of you to visit. Everyone gets angry but the solution lies in containing it. Stay blessed.

It's always a pleasure reading your articles. I also get angry sometimes but I always try to calm myself lest I hurt others unintentionally.

Sp Greaney, you are very right. It has to be expelled out lest it harms us from within. Thanks for your practical approach.

Lorna, you have explained the anatomy of anger in a very lucid way. Thanks and high regards to you. Stay blessed.

Sp Greaney from Ireland on August 11, 2020:

I think this poem expresses how most of feel at somepoint in our life. We strive to do better. Anger is good, because bottling things up is never a good thing.

Lorna Lamon on August 11, 2020:

There are many reasons why we get angry at times. Usually I get angry at myself if something or someone frustrates me. However, I now take a step back and rationalize the situation. I feel this form of anger is normal and can be controlled. People with mental health issues are more prone to outbursts of anger due to their condition.

Anger becomes a problem when it is out of control and this causes many issues both in relationships and health. In your last verse I felt that even though everything had worked out, there still were feelings of anger. We all have these feelings sometimes, and as long as anger does not affect your health or another person then I believe it is human nature. A thought provoking poem Umesh which I enjoyed.
