Don't Pay Heed to What They Say: A Poem
They say: "Devote all your time for a common good
be a true patriot, believer, and an altruistic soul"
but then it comes a little hard to be understood
as it doesn't appear to be a common goal.
They say: "Respect all animals for every life is sweet"
and if we have a heart we must know what they mean
but except for loving their pets they still feast on meat
and somehow they manage to keep conscience clean.
They hand out many prescriptions for living
those very slogans that each of them shuns
and maybe it is more time to start forgiving
than to heed preachers of love buying guns.
Much more they say that's not worth repeating
those self-elected beacons of morality and love
and it's up to us to detect their covert cheating
that song of each pigeon pretending to be dove.
So, choose for yourself, not as "they say"
a life that's by your own soul desired
and when you hear them say "nay"
just have all those judges fired.
