Gentle Candlelight

Lorna is a published writer with a particular interest in narrative poetry, which she finds therapeutic.

gentle-candlelight

When the calmness of twilight cloaks the evening

And the firelight’s dying embers take respite

You quietly reside beside the window

Where precious memories glow by candlelight

Your wistful gaze rests on the fading photo

Captured forever in the simple wooden frame

And in the silent language of undying love

Shadows of candlelight softly whisper his name

The firelight glow creates the perfect haven

Where gentle caresses soothe your careworn face

And the strength of love surrounds a timeless yearning

As candlelight guides you to that special place

Feelings of emptiness invaded the room

Where past memories faded into the night

Yet the beauty of peace lay upon your face

Tenderly bathed in gentle candlelight

Such a lovely poem. Candlelight casts a peaceful glow and I surround myself with its light often. As you mention in your poem, "The firelight glow creates the perfect haven where gentle caresses soothe your careworn face"

Truly exquisite, my friend. I'd like to sit in that 'special' place, imbibing your eloquent words and tugging at their sweetness, like the sugarcane juice of Paradise.

A sublime piece!

Touching poem creating the beauty and calmness of one relaxing by candlelight renewing his spirit.

I use candles quite a lot in and around the house. They soften the room especially in winter. Thank you for visiting and commenting Liz.

Tiyasha Maitra from Gurgaon on November 20, 2019:

Oh such lovely words. A candle lit atmosphere can be moulded by words into something dark and sinister or something warm and familiar. Your poem has captured the second kind so aptly.

It feels the ambience is gently swirling around me while I read this verse.

Rosina S Khan on November 20, 2019:

This is a lovely poem, Lorna with reference to candlelit environment and settings. Keep contributing such wonderful poems. We all love you and your poems. Never feel lonely. Remember always that we are all in the same boat.

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on November 20, 2019:

Your poem captured the atmosphere perfectly, Lorna. I felt I was there in the firelight’s glow surrounded by memories and candles. Such a peaceful and tranquil setting, if a little sad.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on November 20, 2019:

This is another piece of poetry that paints a lovely picture. Candle light does change the atmosphere in a major way, and it is lovely.

Liz Westwood from UK on November 20, 2019:

This is a very atmospheric poem. Candles have become very popular in recent years. There is nothing quite like a candle lit room.
