Funny Feelings

Updated on May 3, 2016

The woman he met

had him practically

dancing on the ceiling

with her he never knew

whether he was coming or going

but she sent his heart

as well as his mind reeling

at the happiest of times

her smile was as brilliant as the sun

and during sad times

he held her as the tears flowed

when she grew angry

her eyes flashed

and he often thought of thunderstorms

as she vented her anger

often she distressed him

and soon he found

that he didn’t really know her at all

she wore so many different masks

he no longer knew who she was

or who she wanted to be

he must hoped and wished

that she would stay

she would stay and love him

no matter where life would lead them

but then there was more silence than I love yous

her kisses no longer as sweet

the happy life he had lead

seemed to have taken a turn

as he sat beside her

she seemed so very far away

and he hoped that wherever

in her daydreams she wandered

that she would find her way home

to find the love that she needed

in his arms and that there she would stay

but one day as the cold autumn winds blew

he just kind of knew

that he would find himself alone

before too much time had passed

and that the winter snows

would be along

while he sat alone

by the fireside

then another week

and he no longer knew

who he was speaking to

so changed was she

and the next day he was alone

wondering where love had flown

when spring came round again

his heart was still aching

for he no longer believed

that any kind of love was real

on a bright sunny morning

when tulips were beginning to bloom

she walked back into his world

and was the woman

he had met so very long ago

the things she said about seeking the truth

finding herself

and discovering she loved him

sounded strange to his ears

and even though as he looked into her eyes

they reflected love there

his heart no longer had room

for a woman he never truly knew

It does happen Shauna and yes, it is always sad that sometimes the feelings are just no longer there.

Oh, this is so sad. At first I thought this may be about a lover's experience through Alzheimer's Disease. Then I realized too much time had gone by between the woman's indecision and the man's tolerance. Too bad his heart no longer felt the love it once did.

"For a woman he never truly knew." Love can be a mystery that can disappoint and disillusion. Beautiful poem.

Love is not always fair Ed and yes, I do think that at times we don't really realize what we do to one another. Thus inspired the title of Funny Feelings came to me.

      Thank you Ruby.

Hey Girl , This is truly from the heart of all of us . You know that saying or book actually ," Men are from mars- women are from venus " , I believe that somewhere between that and this beautiful verse lies each of our hearts . This is almost heartbreaking to read when it hits home , why do we do this to each other?
