Friendship at First and Last Sight: A Poem
If by some other fate I happened to be gay
it would be so much easier to understand
but now I can't really tell it any better way
than by someone's vibes sensing a friend.
At a bus encounter I faced this man
in a weird moment, surreal or what
my inner antenna did its usual scan
producing a pleasant jolt in my gut.
Our eyes met, but not turning into some stare
and that instant sufficed for our vibes to meet
in a sudden duet of their same song to share
like we didn't need any verbal way to greet.
Not the first time for me that telepathy looked real
when it is so predictable what someone will do
as if being tuned into what they think and feel
and that's what was happening out of blue.
A little tick on his face resembling mini smile
made me self-conscious of thinking too loud
with him apparently just listening all the while
and neither of us aware of surrounding crowd.
Then the bus stopped, and just before he disappeared
he sent me a quick friendly look with which my story ends
leaving me with feelings no matter how they may look weird
but I just had more going with a stranger than with some friends.
