Four Fingers

Agnes Laurens is a writer, wife, and mother of three daughters.

four-fingers

The top of the finger

One, two, three, and four

Pain from callosity

Dark grey stripes

One line total on each

That hard skin

What makes it fun

To play with it all

Never thinking about

Ah, that is because of the material of the fingerboard in combination with the strings. The longer in time you play, the more you get.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on December 12, 2020:

I have not played the violin but dabble with an acoustic guitar.

My fingers do hurt until they get used to it, but I have never had marks like that.

Agnes Laurens (author) from The Netherlands on December 11, 2020:

Yes, they get it too. I saw it with my father. He plays the guitar.

Agnes Laurens (author) from The Netherlands on December 11, 2020:

Yes, it is, but when you're doing it for years, it is fine and I can live with it!!

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on December 11, 2020:

Guitar players also develop calluses on their fingers. I guess it is the price that needs to be paid.

FlourishAnyway from USA on December 11, 2020:

I had no idea this was a consequence of playing the violin! Ouch!

Agnes Laurens (author) from The Netherlands on December 11, 2020:

Yes, everything is good after practicing the violin for years. All string players do have that. Do you play the violin?

Agnes Laurens (author) from The Netherlands on December 11, 2020:

Yes, when playing the violin all the callosity on my fingers tips comes from touching the strings. When time passes, it doesn't hurt that much anymore, except when I have practiced a lot that day.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on December 10, 2020:

I guess if you don't think about and they are not painful...all is good.

Never had them on my fingertips.

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on December 10, 2020:

It looks painful but probably those finger tips have very little feeling now. Interesting poem.
