“I’m sorry for your loss, Senora.” Enrique stands behind the screen door holding his sweaty ball cap. “Senor Fred was a good man.”
“Thank you, Enrique. Would you like something to drink?” Marlene shuffles her walker to the patio and hands her gardener a check.
Enrique answers, “No gracias, Senora. If you need any money, please don’t be afraid to ask.”
“You are too kind, Enrique, but I will be fine.” Marlene squeezes her gardener’s hand. “Fred was fond of you, too.”
The president is on TV talking about building the wall as Marlene settles into her recliner.
