This was written back in 1996, after I got my very first car. I found a tiny good luck charm, named him Emilio, and affixed him to the dash. He's been with me ever since!

Though I wrote this just before my 16th birthday, and it was one of the very first poems I ever wrote, it has always been my favorite.

Emilio is my friend; he sits on my dash

And get this, I bought him – yeah, I paid cash

A buck eighty-five is not much to spend

For someone as loyal as Emilio's been

Emilio's small, and oh yeah, he's green

He's always been friendly; he's never been mean

He sits on his pad, not saying a word

Just the occasional “ribbit” to make sure he's heard

Emilio croaks and yet never dies

And he has an appetite only for flies

some think I'm strange and pretty darn weird

Some look at me like I'm growing a beard

When I introduce them to my little green frog

I don't understand it – what could be wrong

Emilio's cute and sure doesn't bite

(Though if he had teeth, he probably might)

So people may laugh and push me away

But Emilio's there for me every day

He's loyal and friendly and thoughtful and kind

So as you make fun of me keep this in mind

We are all different; no two the same

Life is too short, just make it a game

One day when you're lonely, then you will know

You should have been nicer to Emilio

Cool poem on your frog (prop). We must save them to save our environment.
