Elias's Sixth Birthday Haiku
I can't seem to stop writing poetry or reading poetry. I think it is safe to say I love poetry and I love sharing great poetry with others.
I.
As my third child grows
among different tree lines
I still hold him close.
You turn six today
as I gaze upon your smile
the Lilacs bright bloom.
Soon you will need space
to stretch your arms to the sun
or curl up in nest.
I will be there too
along with space and sun
wherever you are.
II.
Run in open fields
find many caves to explore
smell all the flowers.
Experience six
with such emotion and joy
store for a lifetime.
Whether you are six
or any other Birthday
I will tuck you in.
III.
Now wait for next
see your temperament change
hold onto the new.
You will always be
the same as you are today
even when away.
You grow like a tree
like each branch each pine cone
to a cloudless sky.
