Dreams Never Meant To Be

I see tracks of dreams never meant to be
The cards we discarded are still on the table
They’re marked to remember as we’re able
I’m awake but I’m not taking your money

I don’t have to act like I need to be free
I know I am, as far as a horse in a stable
They ride me then it’s back in my cradle
You don’t have to explain it for me to see

It’s not just the colors I thought I’d see
It’s the feelings worked up inside of me
I’m not color-blind, I keep it all to myself
But those leaves already fell from the tree

Give me time, I just came from the sea
Either side of the ocean, I’m still capable
I won’t ask anybody, I’ll set another table
What I ate will forever live inside of me

It’s not just the colors I thought I’d see
It’s the feelings worked up inside of me
I’m not color-blind, I keep it all to myself
But those leaves already fell from the tree

Thank you Brenda and Lorna... I guess this is a country western style motif. I was thinking about losing at love for some reason because it's not autobiographical. Then my imagination got into it's empathetic zone.

Lorna Lamon on October 21, 2020:

I love Country and Western music and your lyrics have this feel to them. Nostalgic and poignant - thoughtfully written.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on October 20, 2020:

Mark,

I sense the feeling of sadness inside these words.

A feeling of being chained down...no longer free.

Great write.
