"Purpose" ~ Week 59: Word Prompts Help Creativity

Brenda Arledge has once again graced us with a word prompt to challenge our creativity. "Purpose" is a word that I personally found very inspiring, and I hope my poems demonstrate that.

I know you have been suffering from illness recently Brenda. But, I hope your health is improving, and that you, and all my American friends, had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

This is also my 600th article here on HubPages, which I didn't realise until Rosina Khan told me. So that makes it an extra special milestone for me. Thanks, Rosina.

The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.

— Ralph Waldo Emerson

Poetry With Purpose

My poetry has purpose,
It’s more than words that rhyme.
It always has a message,
Which is clear most of the time.

I like to give it rhythm
And a decasyllabic flow.
That often makes a sonnet,
For those who’d like to know.

Sometimes I borrow rhyme and style
From great poets of the past,
And only change the theme and words.
That poetic garden’s vast.

Poets try to entertain,
Educate, inform, inspire.
Analyse poems if you must,
But don’t throw them in the fire.

Poetry’s a part of me -
I feel like a captive bird.
It lets me open up the cage
And release purposeful words.

My Purpose in Life ~ A Sonnet

Inspired by the song 'Purpose' by Justin Bieber above

Woeful, I stood on the old granite rock,
An outcrop overlooking the bay.
I wondered sadly my purpose in life
To realize that there must be a way.

I watched the red Sun as it said goodnight,
As the full Moon took its place in the sky.
There’s comfort in darkness, much more than light,
But don’t ask me to explain to you why.

A revelation then formed in my head,
That my life’s purpose was there all along.
It came to me in the words of a song,
Putting my unfounded worries to bed.

Oh Lord, you told me to take pause and rest,
My only purpose is to try my best.

If you can’t figure out your purpose, figure out your passion. For your passion will lead you right into your purpose.

The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.

We'll All Find Our Purpose I Pray

My Song to the Tune of Botany Bay (above)

I know that we all have a purpose
I know that our purpose is true
I know that we’re here for a reason
But my reason may be lost on you.

Singing toorali-orali-addity
Singing toorali-oolari-ai
Singing toorali-ollari-addity
We'll all find our purpose I pray

Our creator is the faithful captain
Our parents help steer our fair ship
Our good friends and our siblings assist us
We must hoist the sails, not resist.

Singing toorali-orali-addity
Singing toorali-oolari-ai
Singing toorali-ollari-addity
We'll all find our purpose I pray

‘Taint fighting the wind that we care about
‘Taint bracing this ship ‘gainst the storm
But because we must realize our purpose
We must reach the safety of port.

Singing toorali-orali-addity
Singing toorali-oolari-ai
Singing toorali-ollari-addity
We'll all find our purpose I pray

For years I have searched for direction
And for years I have failed at that task
But I am wiser now that I’m older
And no more advice must I ask.

Singing toorali-orali-addity
Singing toorali-oolari-ai
Singing toorali-ollari-addity
We'll all find our purpose I pray

Though, if I had the wings of an eagle
I'd soar through the clouds way up high
And ask God to reveal my true purpose
Then fulfil that requirement I’d try.

Singing toorali-orali-addity
Singing toorali-oolari-ai
Singing toorali-ollari-addity
We'll all find our purpose I pray

Now to all of my friends and my colleagues
Take warning from what I’m to say
When you find your purpose grab onto it tight
Or you’ll come to regret it one day.

Singing toorali-orali-addity
Singing toorali-oolari-ai
Singing toorali-ollari-addity
We'll all find our purpose I pray
