Dentures Under Pillow: A Poem
An aging dude puts dentures under pillow at night
hoping for the Tooth Fairy to change his bad luck
well, that's how he is expecting things to go right
after years of not doing much to get life unstuck.
Then he wakes up in the morning all confused
instead of Tooth Fairy he sees his wife's face
suddenly feeling as if all beaten and bruised
by memories of wrong faces at wrong place.
He washes his face avoiding mirror's mocking
then finds one left over use for that dead tool
with some hours before he's ready for talking
just mumbling its rehearsal, that old silly fool.
At breakfast he finds out something is missing
even the soft of bread seems harder to chew
puzzled why his breath sounds like hissing
strange look of his wife not giving a clue.
Only later on when he smiles at his wife
he gets told to put back on his dentures
and now he feels fully equipped for life
on rocking chair ready for adventure.
