Control

To satisfy his own passions and desires

Man does always strive,

Control, on everything, he tries to acquire

To come up in his life.

He wants to restrict the flow of time

And peep into unknown future,

And to have his own command on

Free, insuppressible Nature.

Often, in this hard toil for control,

He doesn’t get the time at all

To sit for a while and ask himself,

“Do I have control on myself ?”

I agree with you, dear Peggy. Striving to control our own minds and actions is the best option available.

Delighted to hear from you.

Thanks, dear Chitrangadaji for your insightful comment. Happy to hear from you, as always.

Thoughts, words and actions are interconnected. Having control over thoughts ensures control over words and actions and that requires a sound balance of mind, intellect and heart - centers and sources of desires, decisions and emotions respectively.

True, our own control over our actions and reactions can ensure fair control over difficult situations of conflicts and confrontations that arise mostly due to poor understanding of / imbalance of expectations in relationships - in personal as well as professional dealings.

Much as we would like to control the things around us, it is often out of our control. All we can do is strive to control our own minds and actions.

Chitrangada Sharan from New Delhi, India on November 17, 2020:

Nice and thought provoking poem.

I read your poem earlier, but wasn’t able to comment. Thankfully, it appeared in my feed, and I appreciate your thoughts expressed in this poem.

I believe, I have adequate control on my emotions, words and actions. Though, conscious efforts are required to do so. In the moments of conflicts and confrontations, one can have control on our own behaviour. Whereas, we can’t have such control on other’s behaviour. It becomes easy to control situations getting out of control.

Thank you for sharing this.

Thanks, Devika for coming by and posting a thoughtful comment.

Emotions have a lot of strength and are an integral part of existence. Provoked emotions are the ones that tend to become very difficult to control.

Devika Primić from Dubrovnik, Croatia on November 09, 2020:

I like the poem. In control is a way to have life in order. Sometimes one can be out of control it is not easily put together when it comes to emotions. At some point we realize not much can be done to control our feelings.

As we mature, we realize that many things cannot be controlled, except for our own thoughts and actions.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on November 06, 2020:

Our passions and desires lead us down many roads. We want to think we are in control of our destiny but we seem too busy doing things to just stop and ask ourselves if we are truly going in the right direction.

Good one.

There are many things which are outside of our control, however, being in control of how you act and treat others is so important. A thought provoking poem Vanita.
