Comedians, My Heroes: A Poem
Comedians, those unsung heroes deserving every prize
deserving medals for victories against human crap
for turning a gloomy hell on earth into a paradise
and exposing cultural sickness as a trap.
Comedians are healers outdoing any shrink
laughter being medicine only love can match
and it doesn't matter what anybody may think
they are out of our league, spirits hard to catch.
Above everything else, they are here to remind us
how we can't generate laughter unless provoked
we need others' talents to somehow unwind us
so that emotions of fun and joy can be evoked.
Humor is a privilege of our all human race
one which we just cannot appreciate enough
for with no sense of humor we are a shrink's case
merely viewing life as problematic, painful, and tough.
As babies we laughed when nothing was funny
proving that joyfulness was inherent to us all
but it was before we learned about money
now comedians giving that partial recall.
