Coffee and Cake
I have been writing poetry, fiction and short stories for many years and have completed a book of poems. I also enjoy comedy writing.
There is nothing more splendid than waking up to a hot cup of coffee and a cream sponge cake
Sitting on the patio with birds whistling their musical take
With cool winds just brushing past my warmed lips
Feeling soft hands placed on my shoulders and receiving that awaited good morning kiss
Sipping softly, enjoying the blessings, all this marvel to intake
By simply enjoying my morning coffee and cake
Look, tiny ants gather sneaking away a few crumbs from my feet
They waste nothing, bold little marchers disappearing into the creeks
The wind picks up a leaf, it gently soars past, my eyes slows it down
My imagination sparks, now I see an invasion from the leaf people all around
They must be planning a raid
Conspiring to take my coffee and cake
I pulled my coffee closer to me to fend off the attack from the leaves
This could not be happening, trying to take my morning splendor, I just can’t believe
I stood up, drew Excalibur and shut my helmet
The wind stopped, the leaves dropped, the invasion simply ended.
I sat down, smelled my coffee and took a few sips
But by this time, my cake was on the verge of being finished
I looked up and saw a little bird chirping, moving its tiny head from side to side
Sizing up the remainder of my cake,
It flew on to my table, I watched it moving left to right
Brazen little chap simply flew in for the take
I pushed the plate over to him to make it a bit easier for him to peck
As he was at a little distance, stretching his neck
I guess every creature new of my coffee and cake
The ants took some, the leaf people raided and now this tiny bird finishes up the plate.
But I still do come out on the patio every morning to enjoy my splendor, my coffee and cake.

I really enjoyed this one very much, Clive. It was a poetic short story.

That part made me smile the biggest. This was entertaining, but a peaceful, simplistic, vision of eating cake and having coffee in the morning. It's what life is all about. Thanks for the :).

Sweet, Clive. A nice poem to read this morning as I relax and enjoy time off from work. A simply splendid moment in time is expressed well. This serves as a reminder for me to be still and savor the moments this week. Thank you for that.

Super poem Clive. You are blessed to have your first cup in such lovely surroundings. I love coffee as well. First cup is always the best. Normally at 5 ' clock, unless I worked late. Best Wishes for the New Year.
