Checking My Pulse

I’m not looking over your shoulder
I’m not crying on it either
I just want to get back to my thoughts
They seem to pass right through my eyes
I’m trying not to make it personal

It was more than I could take
No vow ever burned so quickly
Renewal was like a baby being born
The pain was real but the sun was bright
A feeling back in it’s perfect place

You know what it all means
Standing in a crowd, shoulder to shoulder
Witnessing a miracle from a sinner
Something that collapses into true desire
But a song is not a place you can live

I finally remember I know how to laugh
In fact I’ve done it half my life
Dreaming is how I check my pulse
Waking up reminds me of my fate
But there is still time to make it my way
