Caught on a Hamster Wheel
Heather has a Bachelor's Degree in English from Moravian College and has been freelance writing for more than 13 years.
Watched another Monday finish and another work week commence
A continuous merry go round that had no capability of stopping
Placed in a time warp that not even Riff Raff could predict
Not just a step to the left and a jump to the right
Less musical and even less strange at how ordinary it all is
Life in repetition where the ride was long and somewhat bumpy
Stuck in an endless loop of generic routine
Trying to find substance in the mundane and phony
Difficult to do so when everyone seemed to be two-faced
Lying to blend in or stand out above the fray
Not showing their true colors unless it suited them to do so
Benefitting them in the long and short run of things
Mind becoming a blank as the days and weeks washed together
Would almost rather be stuck in an insane Hollywood musical
Instead of this flat and atmosphere free environment
Where truth wanted to take a backseat to some fiction for a change
To step into a different world to allow imagination and creativity to flow
Well dried up a little bit in recent weeks due to literally nothing happening
Watched a lot of true crime and reality television that brain turned to mush
Leaked out all the spark and ideas along with it as the rain washed it away
Embracing the nuggets of inspiration when they come
Before vanishing away temporarily in a regular pattern of bewilderment
Searching for opportunities to have an adventure harder than thought
Discounting trips to the grocery store as too normal and too close to home
Ready to actually stand back and smell the roses for real this time
No longer chasing storm clouds for a change of pace
Looking for this metaphorical wheel to slow down
In order to get off and find some different scenery to look at
Even if it's only for a short period of time
Something is better than nothing.
