“Brother mouse be careful the cat is on the prowl.”
“But I don’t see the cat on the couch
I don’t see the cat in his favorite chair
I don’t see the cat at the top of the stairs
I don’t see the cat by his food bowl
I don’t see the cat watching our mouse hole
I don’t see the cat on the kitchen counter
I don’t see the cat behind the big planter.”
“All because you silly little mouse
I’m waiting behind you ready to pounce
“Run brother mouse, get up and run
Before we’re both done.”
The two little mice headed for their hole
Just ahead of them right in the wall
“Run brother mouse, the cat is close behind.”
Run faster, run faster, we don’t have much time.”
The mice ran fast weaving this way and that
One mouse looked back to find the old cat
The cat was not there, the cat was not anywhere
The mice finally made it to their hole in the wall
Where they let out a sigh, the biggest sigh of all
“That was too close Brother mouse, too close for me.
Now peek out the hole, peak out to see what you can see.”
Brother gazed out the mouse hole, where could the cat be ?
He didn’t see the cat in his favorite chair
He didn’t see the cat at the top of the stairs
He didn't see the cat by his food bowl
He didn’t see the cat watching his mouse hole
He didn’t see the cat on the kitchen counter
He didn’t see the cat behind the big planter
Then a noise came to his little mouse ears
A tinkling of a bell he could suddenly hear
The mouse laughed as the cat came into view
Around his neck hung a bell shny and new
The cat shook his head, one time then three
He shook his head trying to get the bell free
When it didn’t work the cat started ran and ran
He ran and jumped in his favorite chair
He ran up and down, up and down the stairs
He ran again and again by his food bowl
He ran back and forth by the little mouse hole
He ran into the kitchen across the counters
He ran behind and infront of the big planter
Still the bell did not budge, it didn’t come off
The cat finally stopped and laid down with a huff.
The two mice laughed as they hid in their hole
They knew the cat and mice game was now a go
