Cancer Fighters Poem

I have been writing poetry, fiction and short stories for many years and have completed a book of poems. I also enjoy comedy writing.

Cancer free

Cancer free

Cancer, that dreaded name we all hate

Some of us discover it early while many others discover late

Leukemia, lymphoma, breast or prostate

Whatever cancer you are battling you just got to have faith

Don’t let fear take over your mind because that is exactly what cancer wants

Help to fight those bad cells, drink purified water, and consume more plants

Cancer can attack you at any stage of life

It doesn’t matter if you are a famous movie star, husband or wife

It cares not for your race or color, black man or white

It can shatter your world and make you lose grip of what’s insight.

Then you place your life in the Doctors hand when you simply don’t know

As they fill toxins in your body and call it chemo

You may get ill from this, some people lose their hair

But no matter the side effects, you have to be strong out here

It is hard, family members worry and pray everything will be well

As the thought of death plagues your mind ringing in your head like a bell

Good news for some, total remission

Now you have a new take on life and living becomes a mission

But many will relapse, and then the fear rushes in again as before

They suddenly feel like all hope is swept through the door

But you cannot give up, for once there is life there is hope

Fight, pray, fight and pray some more

Speak wonderful things to your body, let cancer be no more

Don’t give up, once the breath of life is within you

Then you will see a miracle happen, you loving life, then lifesaving you.

Clive

You are so right. This cancer can hit one when he least expects it and throw his life off guard.

It is so difficult to convince someone to have hope when he hears devasting news like this from doctors.

Hopefully time will lend them more hope and eyes to see things differently.

Umesh Chandra Bhatt from Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, India on July 11, 2020:

Nice one. Feelings captured well.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on July 02, 2020:

Nice write.

One cannot give up. It's too easy to just follow the doctor's advice.

One can research the best defense for himself and start first with a positive attitude.

I love this line

But you cannot give up, for once there is life there is hope

Sweet words for survivors. Hugs to you, Clive.

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on July 01, 2020:

As a survivor and now a different new cancer, I can dig this. Words were well drafted and not to gooey with the sentiment.

Ruby Jean Richert from Southern Illinois on July 01, 2020:

Your rhyme is very good in this important piece. I really loved it Clive!

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on July 01, 2020:

Cancer is a dreaded word that no one wants to hear. I know you have that experience and here you are writing all kinds of articles for our pleasure. You expressed so much in this article and it was very good.
