The Power of Prayers

The Power of Prayers

Can You Hear Me? —Poem

Each day, I sit down to pray,

I look upwards, towards the sky,

With folded hands, my heart prays,

My eyes search, for someone,

Whose presence can be felt, not seen,

I try to concentrate, once again,

With closed eyes, and deep emotions,

Can you hear me, Can you see me.

My mind is distracted,

With the smallest sound,

As the mind travels, faster than light,

And, it’s most active, when you’re ‘still,’

Once again, I try to concentrate,

Can you hear me, can you see me.

Concern about the near and dear ones,

Dominate my thoughts, once again,

Their big and small problems,

But that’s the reason, I am praying,

I ask for forgiveness (to leave),

For my lack of concentration,

‘He‘ smiles, or so it seems,

‘He‘ always does,

Once again, I try to concentrate,

This time harder, much harder,

Once again, and again,

Can you see me, can you hear me,

I finish my prayers, with the hope,

That ‘He’ heard me, ‘He always does.’

Pray with your heart.

Pray with your heart.

This is a beautiful poem, Chitrangada, in which you express your sincerity so well in praying. It is true that we can become distracted and our minds may wander but it is our intentions that really count. I love your message. Thanks for sharing!

A beautiful poem, I enjoyed reading this. God hears all our prayers even though we may be distracted every now and then.

manatita44 from london on January 15, 2021:

A beautiful Piece! God not only hears you, but gives you the Inspiration to pray as well. Furthermore, God prays in and through you.

Thoughts ... no joke! A big one! Guru ji was fond of speaking of the 'monkey' mind. Others say its a mind bitten by a scorpion. Lol. Actually, it is very normal in the beginning of meditation. Bring the mind back gently, but don't scream at it, as it would get stronger. You're doing well. Hari Om!

Yes, I am thinking about that, although I am not a poet in the real sense of the term. My poems are mostly spontaneous expressions, and I feel good to read the response of the readers.
