California Burning

The inhumanity of indifference
The failure of empathy
A masochistic natural world
Absent a predators sympathy

But the solace of a new born child
The dawn of smoky ashen sprigs
Into the void comes hope and life
Evolution wins when a farmer digs

Did the world have a choice
Did someone really make wine
What happened to the water
God has enough for every sign

Is it something we should endure
Is it only a calamity to those who burn?
How busy am I during this tempest?
Busy enough until it's my turn

Thank you Kalpana. You are very kind to say that. The fires are very distressing. They are causing extreme hardship and pain.

Beautifully expressed and thought provoking.

Deeply troubled by the California fires. I hope things settle down and are back to normal soon.
