Bougainvillea Perennial

Bougainvillea Perennial

Spring spread her splendour
Poured mirth into hearts
And then she went away
Fagun * played with colors
and he too disappeared
The winter had coerced champa *
But now she smiled
Showed her fair face again
Spring flowers
Some lying on the ground
Some about to descend
From the stems
Like artists and dancers with fervour
Who played drums, and danced
Tired of shows
Took rest for awhile
Month of chait * stood at the doorstep
My eyes earnest in search of beauty
Sometime stared the sky
Sometime the earth
Summer slowly strokes the skin
What more the nature has in her bosom
I immersed in my thoughts
bougainvillia smiled and said
Why do you think now of those moments
They thronged your home like guests
Shared some chats and went away
They could not tolerate the mild heat
Went away leaving others alone
Look at me
I kept laughing the whole year
My cheeks show all colors
Just look with love at me
I adorn the white saree
And see me in pink too
Sometime my dupatta is dark red
In violet I also woo
The orange suit salwaar
Delights my heart
And spare a look at the curves
Of my yellow ghaghri *
In beautiful make up daily
You may see me in every street
But you never throw a glance of love
This glitter and aplomb never lasts long
With grit who goes along with you
Only such a friendship survives
Fed up with all cravings
When you get tired and bored
Going through weather's attacks
The whole year though
It's only bougainvillia
Which entertains you

Fagun * Hindu month covering some last days of February and most of the days of March. Holi , the festival of colors , is celebrated during this month.
Chait * some last days of March and most of the days of April.

Champa * A small flower tree which grows beautiful white flowers.

Ghaghri * A young girl's attire akin to a skirt

Thanks a lot Ruby for kind appreciation of this poem. Bougainvillea has so many varieties in color that it's really very pleasant to savour its beauty. I like this flowering plant with all my heart.

Ah Harish, what beauty exudes from your words and the bougainvillea itself. Such a strikinly beautiful and resplendent plant. Great work.

It sounds like you had beauty all around you. Isn't it wonderful this time of the year when everything seems to come alive. Beautifully penned Hari...

We had a hard rainy season. My lovely gal Bougainvillea had a tough time of it. But she is back and radiant. Of course your prose is wonderful Let us see what my boy Gabe thinks of it. I will be back. Hey thanks for those definitions. I love words. You make words a sweet caress.
