Bluffing Love at First Sight: A Poem
If side effect of love must be to suffer
with tears of doubt, jealousy and hurt
that couldn't happen to a smart bluffer
whose love is just about a passing flirt.
And isn't it fortunate if done in a duet
both partners bluffing their devotion
with no hurt feelings and no regret
just going through love's motion.
Wouldn't it be like smart probation
with none of those big words spoken
with no promises and engagement elation
and with no diamond rings as an eternity token.
How many lovers would be happily matched
if they started casually, no hot heads burning
with bluff of make believe no strings attached
just staying together for some useful learning.
Why do we squeeze our wandering heart
into some moral molds before it can be sure
making it a contract already from the very start
instead of letting a love sprout out of a bluffing lure.
