How Pragmatic Mind Improves Your Life

Author:

Val enjoys writing prose in rhymes by always leaving a message of a life truism in each piece.

Introduction

Pragmatism has from ever been my model of reasoning. After some shitload of those smart books read, I only care about those life truisms that are applicable in life; not those that would only make me sound like a smart ass at parties.

That has made my life incredibly simple and easy. So I let others come up with all kind of useless topics -- and if they would at least be entertaining, they would qualify to be called useful. But more often than not, those are themes coming from one or another pissed off disposition.

However, my pragmatism never made me particularly popular, for that very reason that people like to escape from themselves into things which are not reminding them how they might be doing something futile, crazy, or downright self-defeating.

Lots of nerves get wasted in the process of such escapism, as they are obsessing over things where they either can't or won't do anything. To our nervous and endocrine system it's like revving the car engine while moving nowhere.

It's simply amazing how easy life becomes when we go practical about it, and just do what is doable and live one moment at a time, not responding to something that "was", that "might be if", or what has nothing to do with us at all.

Escaping from themselves, people are foolishly living the life of the whole world, their nation, their friends, neighbors, and even their pets. Yes, pets may become so important that the owner may give you less attention with your story of your recent mishap than to their story of their pet having a diarrhea.

It's unbelievable how proficient have people become at complicating their lives. And the next pieces of prose in rhymes are lightly touching that theme, while giving a little taste of pragmatic reasoning.

Why Not Leave the World Alone

Why should you suffer for world's stupidity

no one is asking for your opinion or advice

and why be bothered by the news morbidity

media business is not even meant to be nice.

Other people's games are their own affair

they don't know how to end what they start

and when you're in trouble world won't care

they are just so quick to tell you to get smart.

World is nothing but one colossal abstraction

to know it, hundred lifetimes wouldn't suffice

and yet -- we judge it by that familiar fraction

hesitant between images of hell or paradise.

If you want to empathize with the mankind

your choice of feelings couldn't be tougher

for, how do you really make up your mind

whether to be happy for them or to suffer.

If your faith in God's protection can't be shaken

then something like a bad luck can't befall you

strong faith and evil repel if I am not mistaken

so nothing bad could ever happen out of blue.

World you hardly know shouldn't make you worry

shouldn't even have concerns of your own nation

and for all that world's misery you can't feel sorry

while from those rejoicing you won't get invitation.

Why Blame Drug Cartels?

I don't smoke, have coffee, or drink

although it's all available by tonnes

I must be wrong the way that I think

imagine, I don't even have any guns.

There are million things I never buy

to me it's just like they don't even exist

those silly commercials don't catch my eye

while none of those things will never be missed.

I'm not blaming those trying to sell

everyone just wants to make a buck

but they could hang it on church's bell

and with me they won't have a selling luck.

So, what are all statistics of overdose dying

always explained as drug trafficking doing

to me it means nothing as I am not buying

not the kind of happiness I am pursuing.

Thirty thousand yearly deaths being drug related

but ten times more die from all medical mistakes

so it's really futile to ponder for everything stated

as it's public mentality with poor willpower brakes.

Weaklings use anything to knock themselves out

without any of this mentioning -- it is simply true

and you probably know what I am talking about

if it's not the white powder -- they'll sniff on glue.

Markets tend to supply what's in high demand

as without potheads and alike it would go dead

whether it's legal booze, or opiate of illegal brand

there is always something for a half-conscious head.

So, why blame cartels, wineries, and other suppliers

and how is Mexican drug deadlier than home made

they simply keep existing because there are buyers

and soon it may become a part of international trade.

So we'll have vodka, coffee, drugs, and beer

proudly coexisting, lined up on same shelves

anything psychoactive to produce some cheers

maybe even to help us to be proud of ourselves.

Da Vinci Turning a Pragmatist

Leonardo da Vinci that man of a vision

after achieving little with Gioconda's smile

came up with smart money making decision

suddenly re-qualifying his genius's creative style.

So he shifted from art to coming up with inventions

after seeing how art was but appreciated by few

and like many a good historian still mentions

he became a great master of "how to".

He invented parachute, and a flying machine

and believe it or not -- also an armored car

some of his inventions still to be seen

but then considered quite bizarre.

Well how can that be relevant to these days

if not by some artists changing their mind

after the initial feverish creative phase

leaving that ambition gladly behind.

In materialistic world creativity won't pay

"starving artists" becoming the phrase

a painting, a novel, or a good essay

won't get you more than a praise.

Many have admired Gioconda's mystic smile

but perhaps her creator chose to forsake her

as a smart Leonardo changed his mind-style

from painting smiling ladies to money maker.
