Besieged: "Victory or Death"

Just me, explaining myself through Poetry words. Words that have been in my head for years. Now inviting you to read and see what you think?

Viewing the Alamo up close.

Viewing the Alamo up close.

Viewing the "Alamo" up close can make you think....

When besieged and it comes time to have to fight...

And you are looking across the enemy line on a starry night.

I wonder if it comes down to it...Will you make the call?

To stand and hold the line today...All alone on this Wall.

Better to live to fight for another day...

That is a noble gesture...some have been known to say.

But when surrounded by a thousand or more,

Will you hold your ground if death is knocking at your door ?

Besieged...is not a very good place to be...

With only a brick wall between yourself...and your ene-my.

Who will cross the line in the sand and stay with you until the end...(?)

Whoever can answer that "Call to Arms"...is much more than a comrade or friend.

What wrong road did you take to get to this dead end?

Weaker hearts can't take this kind of heat or even pretend.

Courage like this kind is not something that one can easily describe...

When you know there is no way...you're getting out of this alive.

At the surrounding Army...they fired back with all they had...

No reinforcements were coming...the situation went from being the worst to "very bad".

I have read the story of the "Alamo"...many times over the course of many years...

I wonder to myself what kind of courage it took...to stand "fearless" in the face of all your fears.

Nothing was going to deter these Alamo Defenders and their Tennessee Volunteers,

With their only bit of fortune...they re-supplied with bushels of corn and many steers.

I can not even imagine the heroic bravery that was required of each of the men...

To know the chances were 100% they would meet a very brutal end.

Yet, each one stepped over a line where there was no going back...

Each one put his own foot forward to stand his ground during the attack.

I have read and learned and even seen this 'Besieged" place called the: "Alamo"...

There have been countless books, historic facts mentioned, and Movies...that we all know.

But the simple fact remains...from that day on until the one we are now in...

How many have faced being "Besieged" in Battle...or faced "Victory or Death" scenario...since then ?

That fighting spirit is displayed everyday...by those who have to serve in combat.

Each one fighting...never knows if this will be the last battle that they ever show up at.

Each one has to have the Courage of them at the Alamo who decided not to leave...

I know of a Marine who was surrounded and still decided to fight...and for this Marine I still grieve.

When it all comes down to it...Travis faced down the enemy like few have had to do...

Except for what many of those who've served in the Military...have had to go through.

A brave decision to join onto a cause that can ultimately cost you your life...

A decision to stand for something that can cut you down...like a knife.

Makes me glad that I have never had to make a decision like that...

But if those who came before us...had not fought for us...Where would we be at ?

On a quiet night long ago...

I wonder if any one at the Alamo...

Wondered how he came to find himself...besieged behind a Wall ?

I wonder if...He knew the minute he decided to stand...He knew he'd fall.

A Story that has been passed down now through many years in his-tory...

A Story that ends with the sad loss of life of Heroes who live on in Glo-ry.

When I look now at an age old Church...A Mission...A Besieged For-tress...

And walk up to it...to see that it's face looks the same through the years...with little di-stress.

It is remarkable to be so close to something that has become a Legend to many...

Though some don't like to bring up the fact that this is where Men stood up against ty-ranny.

It all comes down to a few days...a few moments in time...studied now greatly...in depth...

Where Men were tested greatly...Should they make a final desperate stand...(?)

They found themselves...Besieged: "Victory or Death".

Visited the "Alamo" recently. I have visited many times over the course of my life. This time I was moved to contemplate what it must have been like to have been so totally "Besieged" ? When I try to write my "Manly" Poetry...I try to get at the "Nitty-Gritty" of many things using the media form that I can move around in best. And that is the: "Art Form Known as Poetry." I will not say that I am a Master at it...but it intrigues me enough to share it with you. I am not sure...if you can follow along with my Poetry Idea that I am trying to break down into a thought provoking grasp on something "Big" and "Real". One that we all can relate to on some level. But...What the Heck...I went ahead and wrote the Poem out in "Manly" Poetic-able Form anyways...for your reading discernment. Hope you like it...and I want to "Thank You" for taking a look at this poetry contemplation upon: "Besieged: Victory or Death".

Sincerely Yours,

The Artist Still Known As: Manly Poetry Man.
