Backwards People, Creative Writing
Just because others don't understand our actions, speech, or reasoning doesn’t make our differences wrong or incorrect; nor does it mean we are drunk (or even slightly buzzed). We are just more creative and imaginative than what others are used to.

Backwards People
Backwards People
I am a backwards
person
in practically
everything I do;
What seems
like the ‘right thing’ for me,
probably looks completely
wrong to you.
I would rather
finish last,
than to come in
at a miserable first-place;
And, I enjoy putting
makeup on my feet,
while completely
ignoring my sock-covered face.
I prefer
a tiny room,
than a large,
mansion-style house;
And, I am much
happier wearing
pajamas to a formal dinner,
than my finely-pressed blouse.
I am a backwards
person
in practically
everything I do;
On my feet, I wear a hat,
and on top of my head,
I wear a patent-
leather shoe.
I like to end my day
in the beginning,
And, begin my day
at the end;
When I am supposed to
drive on a straight road,
it is then that
I must make my own bend.
When I am stopped
by a police officer,
I smile because
it does so make my day!
Yet, when I get
an award of any kind,
the depression
is difficult to keep at bay.
People do not
understand me,
so they judge
what they know not;
Bullying makes them feel better
about their own weaknesses;
so, I guess
they must have a lot.
I am a backwards
person
in practically
everything I do;
I know because everyone
tells me so,
but I think their ‘forward ways’
are very backwards, too.

We have some people on our path whom we call 'space cadets.' God knows why He chooses them, but He does. It is a very colourful world, my sweet Tamara. Excellent poem! Higher thoughts.

Superb read, well done.
The simple diction plays such an awesome role in this "backward" poem- you played on the word Backward. very genuine!
As Keats would have said," A thing of beauty is joy forever." That is what I am in my heart about this poem, just a peace of beauty! Keep Writing

Thank you, Flourish. Yes, self-Awareness also helps us to be sensitive to others, and to tolerate differences, and embrace them :-)

Bella,
Thank you so much for such kind words :-) And, it is so lovely to see you, again. Your words are wise and beautiful, and such a benefit to have included in this post.

Aw this was wonderful Tamara! The relationship between you and those who are different than you can be a fickle one indeed. It can be especially grueling to be ridiculed so constantly by someone who doesn't understand you. The world could use a few more people who embrace differences and have the compassion to put themselves in others' shoes.
-Much love,
Bella A. :)

To be self-aware is a marvelous thing. Many people are not.

Interesting and honest expressions!
It’s not always easy to be different. One needs to be mentally strong for this. Something like ‘swimming against the tide.’
Thanks for sharing this wonderful poem!

Wow; thank you, Dora. I sort of thought about this as I wrote it. I appreciate your insight very much :-)
There is a Bible verse that talks about Not Being Able To Please Everyone No Matter What We Do... this is so true!
But, our true friends accept our quirkiness, and even enjoy our uniqueness. However, some are threatened by what they perceive as “different”, and might even lash out. It’s the more primal, and basic human condition, unfortunately.

Tamara, you describe a person who is undeniably in control--an accolade many would like to have. Good read!

Hari,
You are kind :-) Thank you for your thoughtful comment.
I like being who I am, and others enjoy being around me, especially in person. But, I tend to be an introvert, and shy away from others (in person); they do not always understand why I shy away.

Tamara. It is ok to be that way. A great revelation though.

Beautiful poem, sad but, truthful. I am sure many relate to the upside down and backwards presentation of our world. My guess is the perception of others is likely never even close to the true beauty within each of us. Very thought provoking poem.
