Autism A poem about ASD.
For my little princess
Plans change, the melt down is about begin, we know it's coming, as she starts to spin.
God love her, she doesn't understand, some times her melt downs, get way out of hand.
Don't touch me, leave me alone, all because of a trip, we needed to postpone.
Autism, that's what they call it, breaks our hearts, watching as she tries to control it.
Bed has to be made up, in just the right way, list drawn up, of activities for the next day.
A beautiful smile, but her eyes seem blank, tells the truth, but can be really frank.
Hurts to see her, spend so much time alone, but people frighten her, it's the fear of the unknown.
People think she is cheeky, a spoilt little brat, "i'll bet she gets everything that she wants", "oh look at that one, throwing a spat".
It's not our responsibility, to educate them, it's their ignorance, lack of understanding, that I condemn.
Because you can't see it, don't mean it's not there, look hard enough, you'll see her despair.
Once she sets her mind to it, she will not be stopped, she will achieve, all that she wants, with skills she's learned to adapt.
We love you princess, with all our hearts, remember always, family is where the love starts...
