The Palette of Dreams

Do you dream in colour? Do you see pastel drifts, rainbow shades, pixel perfect panoramas? There are dreams that are dark and monochrome. And then there are those that burst with colour. How does your brain decide what colour palette to print your dream sequences in? Does it have an internal cinematographer who decides which colour tone suits which theme?

There are many colours in my Dreams. Parched yellows, browns and fading sepia for those lonely vistas. Claustrophobic dark blues, indigos and pitch black shadows for nightmarish sequences.

And then there are those that burst with every shade of the rainbow, Bright, sparkly, rippling with life and energy, bursting with love and longing. I wake up from these strangely happy and content and yet with a feeling of loss - as if I had woken up too quick, wanting more, yearning.

There are paintings that do the same- bright, vivacious yet leaving you with a sense that real life would struggle to match up with those colourful renditions.

Vladimir Volegov's paintings do that to me.

The phrase ' the colours of my dream' popped into my head as I saw his work. It stuck in my head and buzzed around like a proverbial bee until I rescued it into my poem.

Vladimir Volegov

Born in Russia, Volegov showed early promise when he started painting and sketching at the tender age of three. A stint in art school followed and he then served in the army. He subsequently moved into the Lvov polygraphic institute in 1984. He won several art competitions while he was there. He became a much sought after commercial artist after moving to Moscow in 1988, doing work for several publishing houses and for CD sleeves and album covers.

In the nineties, Volegov travelled throughout Europe, financing his travels by painting portraits in the streets of many European cities such as Barcelona and Vienna. This experience cemented his love for capturing the human form amongst the vividly colourful settings.

Now he is a much exhibited and collected artist. And his work shows why...

Colours of my Dream

Girl, I see you

Standing up, sitting down, lying there

Every pose, a picture

For the frames, of my mind, as you were

Girl, I miss you

In my day, in my night, in my air

Makes me ache, deep inside

Want to know, that you know, that I care

You’re the seasons in my worldview

Reflections on my stream

The reasons that see me through

The colours of my dream

The colours of my dream

Glare, of sunbeams

As I shield, my own eyes, in the bright

Everywhere, your smile shines

Giving me, all the hope, and my light

Eyes, that pierce me

All the way, to my heart, you do see

On the wall, your pictures

Follow me, all around, set me free

You’re the seasons in my worldview

Reflections on my stream

The reasons that see me through

The colours of my dream

The colours of my dream

Where, did we miss

All the signs, of the pain, why the rift

Every day, I wonder,

If there was, another way, as we drift

Then, you come back

Holding court, at the door, smiling so

As if nothing happened

Telling me, you want me, only more

You’re the seasons in my worldview

Reflections on my stream

The reasons that see me through

The colours of my dream

The colours of my dream

Girl, I see you

Standing up, sitting down, lying there

Every pose, a picture

For the frames, of my mind, as you were

Girl, I miss you

In my day, in my night, in my air

Makes me ache, deep inside

Want to know, want to know, that you care…

When you come back you do it with a bang! Beautiful as always Mohan. You certainly have the heart of an artist. The balance of beauty you put in each of your hubs, from Pooh to Volegov your beauty shines through.

Your choice of words put together in heartwarming poetry with paintings that take your breath away for their beauty, not to mention your choice of music. How lucky we are to have you share your talents and heart with us dear friend.

Voted all but funny and shared and pinned.

Art and poetry just go together and those paintings are beautiful poems in themselves. A great idea for a hub.

Genna East from Massachusetts, USA on September 08, 2013:

As soon as I saw you had published a new hub, I was smiling. I knew it would be an intriguing tapestry of art, poetry, story and music. I like Vladimir’s work, although this is the first time I’ve seen it. (Thank you, Doc.) I see some Impressionism in his brush work and gorgeous colors, along with strong themes of romance. Such a delight…your tapestry presents his paintings in meaningful ways that speak to us. Voted up and sharing. :-)

suzettenaples on September 08, 2013:

Docmo: This hub is just beautiful. The video is lovely. I don't know where you find these romantic and beautiful artists. I have never heard or seen the paintings of Volegov before this. Yes, I too dream in color-very vibrant colors. Your poem is exquisite. You have such a way with words and feelings in your poetry. This is just amazing!

Ruby Jean Richert from Southern Illinois on September 07, 2013:

Your poetry is so beautiful. The paintings are extraordinary! Thank you Doc. I really don't think i have ever dreamed in color. I want to. Maybe i will? Cheers my gifted friend...

Nell Rose from England on September 07, 2013:

Beautiful article Mohan, those paintings are so amazing and real, and your poetry really adds to the colours, wonderful!

Lori Colbo from United States on September 07, 2013:

Bravo! What a refreshing thing to see paintings of women that are beautiful, even sensual, without being revealing, seedy, soft porn, and vulgar. What an amazing painter and loved the poem.

I dream in living color and surround sound most of the time. I had a dream a few weeks ago in which I was sitting on some grass with another person who was singing to me. The colors of the grass and sky were stunningly vivid and the woman who was singing I could see every detail of her face, the color of her eyes, and every line and wrinkle. I could see her mouth move with every word as if I was really there. It was amazing.

Once I had a dream that I was in an insane asylum with a friend. It was all in black and white. It was dark, dank, and cobwebby. Frightening too. voted up, beautiful, and awesome.

Rochelle Ann De Zoysa from Moratuwa, Sri Lanka on September 07, 2013:

Wayne Barrett from Clearwater Florida on September 07, 2013:

Docmo, how very nice to see you again.

This work reminds me of an artist named Pino. Very beautiful. Your poetry is a fine addition to his work.
