Are We Offspring of Space People?: A Rhyme with Food for Thought

Val enjoys writing his own style of what resembles poetry, just hoping to catch someone's heart on the same page.

We all know interspecies romance is weird.

-- Tim Burton

Unlike any other living creatures

which adapted with their physique

to any unfavorable earthly features

our chances of survival were so bleak.

For earthly nature never made us fit

to outrun any of our four-legged food

she didn't know we would learn to knit

not given fur we could freeze in the wood.

Without hygiene and all other measures

our new born babies just wouldn't survive

and even despite all our created pleasures

our humankind can't be said to really thrive.

Whoever designed us for the life here

did give us some of their advanced genes

while keeping our true origin forever unclear

but we are much more than surviving machines.

Our consciousness makes us almost divine

with all which no animal could ever match

and no matter what we use for our shrine

we always look up as if for escape hatch.

Do we feel that our soul's true home is up there

maybe from this, or maybe that twinkling star

on a clear night with a long nostalgic stare

wondering in vain -- who we really are.
