Are We Having Fun Yet?

I'm a writer, a poet, a dreamer. Born and raised in New York City. I now live in Daytona Beach, Florida. .

The world keeps spinning faster

and people seem to get much nastier.

No one has time for anyone else

and I have to ask -

Are we having fun yet?

The maniac on the corner,

just shot four or five.

He said the devil made him do it,

but tell that to those who are dead.

Are we having fun yet?

Ironic isn’t it -

that another bomb,

has destroyed a hundred lives or so.

Taken the innocent,

who had so much more to live.

Are we having fun yet?

Open up the online news,

some crazy fool,

has driven down a little child.

Of course it took talent,

to have had five shots of whiskey before.

Are we having fun yet?

Another fool is yelling for money,

says the government -

stole and put him into bankruptcy.

No business, no money, no family,

but the congressmen are sitting,

in the Bahamas having a blast,

not a thought about the past.

Are we having fun yet?

When will this craziness stop?

When will people say enough?

When will this world ever learn?

To live in peace and harmony,

so no more lives are lost

and people can be saved.

Prayers answered and countries

sparking flames of love,

all across the globe -

only then we’ll be having fun,

beneath this sun.

I believe that we are all going to be on this earth still for some time to come. We all have a connection to the world beyond and we are all linked together. When we pass we meet those who went before us and perhaps in time return to journey once more Smarajit.

Smarajit Chowdhury from Kolkata, India on March 11, 2018:

Your words so relevant for each day we live in this world. You have said it all with such concern but I'd like to ask a question to you. As an optimist of life (that is the only way) do you believe: 'This too shall pass'? If not, then is doomsday inevitable? This can't go forever. Something has to give at some point.

Oh, let us hope the changes will come soon Chris.

Chris Mills from Traverse City, MI on March 06, 2018:

You make me long for the news to be different today, for a time when we will have learned the lessons and made the changes necessary, as a world, to have some fun.

You paint another necessary shade on the colour of this thing called Life. O woe, o sorrow! O Light, O Beauty! Come! A strong piece of reflective poetry.

The title to this one, Rasma, really pulls the reader in. You have described, perfectly, the madness that seems to have us, as a human society, too much in its grip. What was that saying about the devil? "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn't exist."

"Prayers answered and countries

sparking flames of love,

all across the globe -

only then we’ll be having fun,

beneath this sun."

So very true!!

That's a lovely poem, and I agree with your words. There is so much going on in the world. Peace seems like a dream, but I hope for this one day.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on March 01, 2018:

I fear we are a long way off from your vision of peace. I hope I'm wrong.

Harish Mamgain from New Delhi , India on March 01, 2018:

Let's hope for the best and strive to instill peace into the chaos. Wise words.
