My #18 for National Poetry Month

i opened a box of crackers this morning

its packaging promising

an enchanted evening

or morning

or some such.

i am a sucker for the promise.

it always makes me buy two

one for now,

promise untasted,

one for later

once i know what i've got.

slathered them each with soft brie

coffee next to the morning paper

i am a sucker for that too

i watched brie swim over the edges

it was a shame to lose the cheese

but the sun was moving on

birds and squirrels are suckers

for melted brie and crackers.

by evening, they sleep

bellies rounded.

LOL I thought that was cute how you fed the birds part of your breakfast. I do the same thing. The birds in my area always get some of my food. I enjoyed your poem and love the pictures.

Blessings to you

Since you say that you are getting better, then I have to agree. Remember, I did not say it first. (chuckle)

A very intelligent piece.

This poem made me feel comfortable and warm. A small slice of life (and Brie) full of humanity. Jamie

I thought about that Bill--not wedded to this title yet--but on this system you have to input your title first--and then write your poem--I work the other way around all the time--so thinking up a title before the piece is completed is always messy for me--sigh

The Starlight Vocal Band, I believe, sang "Afternoon Delight"...just an FYI :)
